Savak

Savak is one of Gabriel's classics, designed in the early 1960s. Savak has been used to upholster a number of Danish furniture classics, and together with the furniture, it has remained fashionable to the present time. Savak clearly reflects the history of Danish design while still fitting comfortably into the lifestyles of the future: a good solid item which ages with grace. Savak consists of four designs: a plain design, two regular striped designs, and the most typical with its irregular long stripes.

The story of Savak

Savak is one of Gabriel's classics, designed in the early 1960s by Tove Kindt-Larsen. In essence, Savak is not merely a fabric; it is a living chronicle of Gabriel's commitment to quality in terms of both materials and construction. Many decades ago, Gabriel made a decision that still stands; to focus its efforts on high quality upholstery fabric of pure, new wool.

Classic construction and aesthetics

As a proof of innovation that lasts for years, Savak stands as a unique historical design that has clear traces of skilled craftmanship rooting back to Gabriel’s origins in 1851.

Today, Savak is a testament to classic construction and classic aesthetics. Made by 80% New Zealand wool and 20% cotton, Savak is woven on a cotton warp, which is constructed in the bottom of the textile, while the woollen yarn covers the surface. The long fibres of the wool beautifully intertwines with the voluminous warp yarn. The melange design is unique by its minimal content of coloured or white fibres, which are mixed into the yarn using a special technique by Gabriel.

This meticulous construction not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the fabric but also reflects the mastery of Gabriel's industrial heritage. Savak ages gracefully, embodying the very essence of craftsmanship and quality.

Savak unfolds in four distinct designs, ranging from a classic plain design to two regular striped variations, and the most typical with its irregular long stripes. The stripes of varying widths are quite unusual for an upholstery fabric and create an almost magical attention to the furniture.

Each design, meticulously crafted, forms a timeless classic that is fitting into the lifestyles of the future. The colour range is a small exclusive handful of natural colours that complements a variety of interior aesthetics, from the classic to the contemporary.

Each detail of Savak is carefully considered, resulting in a fabric that not only weaves a story of Gabriel's history but also adds a touch of luxury to the world of furniture fabrics.
